AGNIS
Privacy Policy
Effective Date: September 2026
Official Domain: agnis.me
Core Privacy Principle: Agnis is built to empower students and learners worldwide. We collect
only the data necessary to provide personalized AI tutoring, active recall quizzes, and collaborative study rooms.
We never sell student data to data brokers or third-party advertisers.
1. Introduction & Overview
Agnis ("we," "our," or "us") provides an AI-powered personalized educational application available at
https://agnis.me. This Privacy Policy explains how personal and academic data is collected,
processed, and safeguarded when you visit our website, create a student profile, interact with our study
assistant, or collaborate in study rooms.
By accessing Agnis, you acknowledge that you have read and understood the practices described in this Privacy
Policy.
2. Information We Collect
We collect information in three ways: information you provide directly, information generated through your study
activity, and technical information collected automatically.
A. Information You Provide Directly
- Mandatory Student Account Details: To ensure community safety, academic accountability, and prevent unauthorized room disruption, Agnis requires an authenticated student account. You register via Google Sign-In or verified email credentials. We receive your display name, email address, and profile photo URL. Password credentials are never stored in plaintext and are securely handled by Google Firebase Authentication. Guest or anonymous accounts are not permitted.
- Academic Profile Preferences: Curriculum preference (e.g., CBSE, ICSE, Cambridge, AP, IB),
grade/academic level, target examinations, and learning goals to tailor lesson difficulty.
- User-Generated Study Inputs: Text prompts, study queries, uploaded study notes, and questions
you input during study sessions.
B. Academic Activity & Progress Data
- Progress Metrics: Experience Points (XP balances), mastery indicators, study streaks,
achievement badges, and active recall retention stats.
- Study Room & Whiteboard Collaborations: Messages, concept summaries, and visual diagram
states generated collaboratively within study rooms.
C. Multimodal & Camera Data
- Camera Homework Scanner: When using the camera tool to capture homework problems or
handwritten textbook pages, images are processed ephemerally solely to parse the educational question. We do not
maintain a permanent video feed or store continuous camera recordings.
D. Agnis Study Library Uploads & Public Activity
- Uploaded Educational Documents: When you share materials in the Agnis Study Library, we store the uploaded file (PDF, document, or image) in encrypted cloud object storage (Google Cloud / Firebase Storage).
- Material Metadata: Title, description, subject, chapter, target exam, academic grade, tags, file size, and upload timestamp.
- Public Attribution: Your display name, public avatar photo, academic level, and target exam are attached to your uploaded notes so fellow students can discover your contributions and view your public library profile.
- Engagement Metrics: Aggregate view counts, download counts, like counts, and your personal liked-materials list to synchronize your library experience.
- Moderation Reports: In-app reporting details (reporter ID, reason, and description) submitted when reporting inappropriate or infringing materials.
E. Real-Time Audio, Voice & Microphone Data (Live Study Rooms & Tap-to-Talk)
- Voice Input & Tap-to-Talk: When you tap the microphone button to ask Agnis a question aloud, your device captures your spoken query locally using your browser's native Web Speech Recognition API. Audio streams are converted to text queries on-device and are never permanently stored, recorded, or used to build biometric voice profiles.
- LiveKit Encrypted Audio Rooms: Live voice collaboration in study rooms is routed via secure WebRTC streams (managed by LiveKit Cloud). Real-time room audio is transmitted ephemerally between active room participants and the Agnis AI tutor. We do not retain server recordings of live conversations after a study session terminates.
- Hardware Mic State Control: On mobile devices, Agnis temporarily unpublishes the room microphone track while you speak to the AI tutor to release Android/iOS hardware locks safely, returning the microphone to the live room immediately upon completion.
F. Automatically Collected Technical Data
- Standard access timestamps, device type, approximate geographic region (country/city level for latency
optimization), and browser user-agent to ensure interface compatibility.
3. How We Use Your Information
We use student information solely for transparent educational purposes:
- Personalized Learning: To generate relevant study explanations, interactive quizzes,
flashcards, and conceptual roadmaps matching your grade level.
- Study Library Peer Discovery: To index, search, and display user-contributed study materials, notes, and PYQs to students across exams and subjects.
- AI Study Suite ("Study with Agnis"): To enable real-time AI summaries, flashcard generation, recall drills, and mind mapping from notes.
- Gamification & Retention: To calculate study streaks, award milestone badges, and display
leaderboards to encourage consistent study habits.
- Study Room Real-Time Collaboration: To sync chat messages and shared diagrams between study
partners in active rooms.
- Platform Integrity & Abuse Prevention: To protect our community from automated scraping,
prompt injection attacks, academic dishonesty tools, or harmful behavior.
- Transactional Communications: To send essential updates, security notices, and feature
announcements (users can opt out of promotional emails at any time).
4. Artificial Intelligence & Generative Model Processing
Agnis utilizes advanced language model APIs (specifically Google Gemini AI) to act as an interactive study buddy.
- Prompt Handling: When you ask a question or request a diagram, your query is transmitted
securely via encrypted HTTPS to the generative AI API to formulate educational responses.
- No Commercial Data Selling: We do not sell your academic questions, study prompts, or generated
content to third parties or data brokers.
- Student Data Protection: Personal account identifiers (such as full names or emails) are
stripped from prompts before inference whenever possible.
- AI Hallucinations & Output Review: While generative AI is remarkably capable, AI models may
occasionally generate inaccurate responses. Students are encouraged to use Agnis as a study companion and
reference primary course material for exam preparation.
5. AI Visual Generation & Media Processing (Agnis Visuals)
Agnis includes an AI visual generation engine ("Agnis Visuals") enabling students to request detailed educational diagrams,
biological cutaways, laboratory apparatus schematics, and science fair blueprints.
- Zero-PII Transmission: When you generate a visual, only the purified educational prompt and
stylistic parameters (e.g., textbook cutaway, label requirements) are communicated to upstream image synthesis clusters.
Your student name, email address, IP address, and account credentials are never shared with or exposed to third-party image generation APIs.
- Ephemeral In-Memory Caching: Generated visual buffers are cached temporarily in secure in-memory server storage
to provide fast re-renders and avoid redundant computational re-loads within chat sessions. Visuals are not stored indefinitely or repurposed.
- No Training on Student Prompts: Agnis does not sell, license, or submit student visual prompts or generated diagrams
to public machine learning repositories or third-party image models for training purposes.
- Automated Content Moderation: All visual generation requests pass through strict automated educational safety filters
designed to prevent the creation of non-educational, explicit, violent, or harmful imagery in compliance with student safety guidelines.
6. Agnis Study Library & Public Document Privacy
The Agnis Study Library is an open peer-to-peer educational repository. When you publish a study material, you should understand how your data is handled:
- Public Visibility: All study documents, titles, descriptions, and file downloads are publicly accessible to any student browsing Agnis. Your public profile information (uploader display name, public avatar photo, academic grade, and target exam) is visible as the author of the material.
- Critical Reminder: Redact Sensitive Personal Data: Students must NOT include sensitive, private personal information inside their uploaded study notes or files (such as personal phone numbers, physical residential addresses, private email addresses, Aadhaar / Social Security numbers, passwords, or banking information). If you voluntarily include personal details in your uploaded notes, that information will become publicly visible and downloadable by other users. Agnis is not responsible for any personal information you choose to disclose in public study materials.
- Cloud Storage & Encryption: All uploaded study documents are stored securely in Google Cloud / Firebase Storage buckets utilizing Transport Layer Security (TLS 1.3) during transfer and AES-256 encryption at rest.
- Author Erasure Rights: Authors have full unilateral control to delete any of their uploaded study materials at any time. When an author deletes a material, the record is immediately purged from our active Firestore database and the document file is deleted from our cloud storage buckets. (Note: We cannot delete or retrieve copies that have already been saved locally to other students' private hardware prior to deletion.)
- Confidentiality of Community Reports: When a user reports a study material for moderation (e.g., copyright violation, inappropriate content, or malicious file), the report details and the reporter's identity are kept strictly confidential and accessible only to Agnis safety moderators. The reporter's identity is never disclosed to the uploader.
7. Third-Party Service Providers
We partner with trusted, enterprise-grade cloud infrastructure providers to operate Agnis safely:
- Google Cloud & Firebase: Provides identity authentication (Google Sign-In), encrypted cloud database storage (Firestore), and high-availability object storage (Firebase Storage).
- Google Gemini & Imagen AI Services: Powers contextual educational explanations, active recall questioning, multimodal problem analysis, and high-fidelity scientific visual generation.
- LiveKit Cloud: Real-time WebRTC audio infrastructure powering interactive peer study rooms and live voice tutoring with Agnis. Audio packets are encrypted in transit and streamed ephemerally without persistent server-side recording.
- Vercel: Delivers global content distribution, edge routing, and front-end static asset hosting.
- Resend: Manages transactional email notifications and announcements.
All third-party providers are bound by strict confidentiality and data-protection agreements aligned with modern international privacy standards.
8. Cookies & Local Storage
Agnis does not use invasive cross-site tracking cookies. We utilize browser local storage (localStorage) and secure session cookies exclusively for essential functionality:
- Preserving your authenticated login session across tab reloads.
- Remembering your UI preferences (such as audio volume, theme, and completed onboarding tutorials).
- Caching offline study materials locally to guarantee fast interface rendering during network fluctuations.
You can clear your local storage and cookies at any time through your browser settings.
9. Data Retention & Permanent Account Deletion
We practice data minimization and provide complete user autonomy over personal data:
- Ephemeral Study Sessions: Active study chat sessions expire and clean up automatically to minimize data footprint.
- Permanent Self-Serve Deletion: You can permanently delete your entire student profile, uploaded study notes, XP history, and saved data at any time. Simply navigate to Profile > Delete Account inside the app. Account deletion is immediate, permanent, and completely irreversibly removes your data from our active databases.
10. Children and Minors' Privacy
Agnis is dedicated to fostering a safe educational environment for learners of all ages:
- If you are under the age of 18 (or the age of majority in your jurisdiction), you should use Agnis with the involvement, consent, and supervision of a parent, guardian, or educational institution.
- We do not knowingly collect personally identifiable information from children under 13 without appropriate parental or institutional authorization. If we learn that personal information has been collected without verified consent, we will promptly delete that data.
11. Data Security Measures
We employ multi-layer security protections to safeguard student information:
- Encryption in Transit: 100% of data transmitted between your device and Agnis is encrypted using modern Transport Layer Security (TLS/HTTPS).
- Access Controls: Database rules enforce strict granular permissions so students can only modify their own profile data, study materials, and designated study rooms.
- Security Headers: Our web servers implement modern HTTP security headers (including Content Security Policy and Cross-Origin Protection) to defend against cross-site scripting and injection vectors.
12. Your Privacy Rights
Depending on your location (including rights under GDPR, CCPA/CPRA, and relevant privacy laws), you have the right to:
- Access & Portability: Request a summary of the personal data we hold about you.
- Correction: Update or correct your display name, academic syllabus, and learning preferences directly in your profile settings.
- Deletion ("Right to be Forgotten"): Permanently delete your user profile and all associated activity at any time.
- Opt-Out: Unsubscribe from non-essential promotional emails using the unsubscribe link included in all email footers.
13. Updates to this Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect improvements to Agnis or changing legal requirements. When updates occur, we will revise the "Effective Date" at the top of this page. Substantial changes will be communicated via in-app banner or email.
